Gratitude and Hope
Thank you to everyone who came out and stood with us as we launched Karla López Owens for Clerk of the Court campaign! 🎉 It was an honor to witness nearly one hundred individuals take time to come by Strangebird Indy, and support these efforts to increase civic engagement, accessibility and reverse course locally.
To both familiar and new faces: Welcome! We’re going to have a fun and engaging time. 🤠

On Sustained Engagement:
For those who joined us on last week for the Karla López Owens for Clerk of the Court campaign launch, we hope you also left feeling hopeful and energized to bring change. As Elise Shrock said:
“Civic engagement is the daily work of showing up. Of paying attention. Of removing barriers instead of explaining them away. Of deciding — over and over again — that democracy is worth tending. And here’s the thing: the Marion County Clerk has a direct impact on whether people can participate in our democracy. On whether voting feels accessible or intimidating. On whether people are invited in — or quietly pushed out. Which is why this race matters.”
🗣️ Did you know…
…that in November 2024, Marion County had the second lowest voter turnout of Indiana counties, and the turnout was among the “lowest for a presidential election year since at least 1988?” (Mirror Indy: Despite early voters, Indy turnout rate among lowest since 1988.)
Making these spaces welcoming also means breaking down barriers keeping people out, and meeting people where where they’re at. This starts by establishing a consistent community presence year-round, and showing up for every township, rain or shine.
🙋🏻♀️ If elected, I pledges to engage in, and support 200 community-led events in 2027.
I have so many ideas I am excited to explore new ways to reach more people, and share local government services! Through this work, we can start to change the outcome of our circumstances and in that process, create new possibilities for ourselves.

Ever thought about volunteering for a political campaign, but don’t know where to start? Are you nervous about knocking on doors or canvassing neighborhoods? If so, this event is for you!
During this event, we’ll cover political campaigning 101, define volunteer roles and responsibilities, discuss tools we’ll be using throughout, go through a few scenarios, and answer any questions you have! Everyone is welcome to attend! Can’t make this one? No problem! Keep an eye out for upcoming dates!
Defend Democracy: Register to Vote
Registering to vote and participating in the upcoming elections is one of the easiest ways to assert the full measure of your citizenship and your constitutional rights. This is one of the easies ways to defend democracy.
Are you registered to vote? Check your status by going to indianavoters.in.gov. In Indiana, you are eligible to vote if you:
✅ Are a U.S. Citizen,
✅ Are a Resident of Indiana,
✅ Are at Least 18 Years Old, on or Before the Next General Election,
✅ You Are Not Currently in Prison After Having Been Convicted of a Crime, and
✅ You Will Have Lived in the Precinct Where You Vote at Least 30 Days Before The Election.
Turning things around starts from the ground up, through local and grassroots action. This is why we need people like you and me to get involved. Important dates:
🗓️ Monday, April 6, 2026: Deadline to Register to Vote in the Primary Election.
🗳️Tuesday, May 5, 2026: Primary Election Date.
